The Städelschule Architecture Class proudly presents its public lecture and events programme for the summer semester 2019. The annual series contributes to Städelschule’s postgraduate Master of Arts in Architecture programme and includes world-renown architects and theorists, emerging names within the discipline, as well as authorities from related fields.
The programme culminates with the Dean’s Honorary Lecture which is given by a world renown architect or theorist every year. The Städelschule Architecture Class is proud to announce that this year’s lecture will be given by Thom Mayne of Morphosis based in Los Angeles.
Mayne is the principal of Morphosis and holds the 2005 Pritzker Architecture Prize. In 1972, he was one of the founders of the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc). More recently, Mayne was a member of former President Obama’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities (PCAH), a national programme initiated in 2012 that provided arts education to USA’s bottom five percent performing public schools. Meanwhile, the work of Morphosis has become praised worldwide, and currently the office designs projects on five continents. Morphosis has received 27 Architecture Awards, over a 100 American Institute of Architects (AIA) honours and recognitions, and has been the subject of 33 monographs.
SAC introduced its Dean’s Honorary Lecture in 2006 in conjunction with its End-of-Year Reviews, which this year takes place in the German Architecture Museum. Since its inception, The Dean’s Honorary Lecture has been given by:
