The Hunter College MFA in Studio Art is an affordable three-year program designed to offer artists broad opportunities to develop their work in an environment that encourages experimentation, production, and critical dialogue. MFA students work with Hunter’s exceptional full-time faculty in individual tutorials, small seminars focused on group critique and contemporary practice, and classes in the theory, criticism and history of art. Each semester, students meet with a full calendar of visiting artists, curators, and critics. Students also have the opportunity to work closely with faculty and curatorial staff on the development of public exhibitions at Hunter College’s four different galleries. These courses may be used toward the Curatorial Certificate, a new program within the Art and Art History Department.
Located at the corner of Hudson and Canal Streets in Tribeca, the Hunter MFA Program offers students extraordinary access to cultural riches and resources of New York City. Immersion in the art world is crucial to our educational goal: the development of professional artists capable of continued creative and intellectual innovation far beyond the confines of the graduate school environment.
