e-flux is pleased to present Satellite, a new monthly series for experimental music at Bar Laika. Curated by Sanna Almajedi, the series will feature emerging musicians and works by sound artists living in or visiting New York. The first performance in the series, featuring C. Spencer Yeh will take place on Thursday, November 1, at 8:30pm. 5 USD cover at the door.
C. Spencer Yeh is recognized for his interdisciplinary activities and collaborations as an artist, improviser, and composer, as well his music project Burning Star Core. Originally conceived in 1993 in Cincinnati, Yeh’s Burning Star Core project was known for its unique blend of musique concrète, ambient, drone, and psychedelic music. His recent solo albums Solo Voice I-X (2015) and The RCA Mark II (2018) were published by Primary Information. His video works are distributed by Electronic Arts Intermix. Recent exhibitions and presentations of his work include Shocking Asia at Empty Gallery, Hong Kong, Two Workaround Works Around Calder at the Whitney Museum, New York, Modern Mondays at MoMA, and Tony Conrad Tribute at Atelier Nord/Ultima Festival, Oslo.
The performance will be introduced by DeForrest Brown, Jr., a New York-based rhythmanalyst, media theorist, and curator. His work is concerned with speculative futures in performative contexts and programmatic intersections of technology and thought. He also releases electronic music and extended media as Speaker Music.
Sanna Almajedi is a Brooklyn-based curator and DJ. She has performed as a DJ and programmed music at multiple venues across Europe and North America, including MoMA PS1, Red Light Radio, Salon des Amateurs, and Good Room. Almajedi has two monthly online radio shows (The Lot Radio and Half Moon).
