OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen was established in 2002 by Kersten Geers (Ghent, 1975) and David Van Severen (Ghent, 1978), and has been based in Brussels since 2006. Geers and Van Severen both studied at the University of Ghent and at ETSAM (Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura) in Madrid.
Kersten Geers has been a tutor and lecturer at the University of Ghent (Belgium), The Berlage (Netherlands), Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio (Switzerland), Columbia University (US), Yale School of Architecture (US) and Harvard Graduate School of Design (US). He is currently Associate Professor at the EPFL, Lausanne (Switzerland). The results of his academic activity are bundled under the moniker Architecture without Content. He is a founding member of the architecture magazine, San Rocco.
David Van Severen has been a tutor and lecturer at the University of Ghent (Belgium), The Berlage (Netherlands) and Harvard Graduate School of Design (US), and a guest critic at TU Delft (Netherlands), the Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio (Switzerland), Yale School of Architecture (US) and ENSAV (École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Versailles) (France). As OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen, they have completed a multitude of projects ranging from furniture to urban design.
They have won the Belgian Prize for Architecture in 2009, 2013 and 2015, the Silver Lion at the 12th Venice Biennale of Architecture (2010), and were recently awarded the Berlin Art Prize for Architecture and the Steel Building Award. An El Croquis edition on their work was published in 2016. A travelling exhibition of their work, Everything Architecture, has been on show in BOZAR, Brussels, centre d’architecture arc en rêve, Bordeaux and the Architectural Association, London in 2016–17. In 2015, Steven Bosmans, Bert Rogiers and Jan Lenaerts were joined by Alexander Smedts as principals in the practice.
