Applications are now available for SVA’s summer residencies in New York City, offering artists, designers and creative thinkers time, space and a supportive community in which to develop ideas and focus on their artistic direction.
Time
Daily critiques, workshops, studio visits, lectures, site visits and social events augment participants’ independent work.
Space
Participants in the Summer Residency Program have the benefit of working within SVA’s dynamic, culturally rich campus. Each program offers access to its own unique set of resources and spaces, which have been designed with artists and creative thinkers in mind. Spacious studios, smart classrooms, installation and performance spaces, exhibition spaces for open studios as well as workshops and labs are among the vibrant hubs of artistic activity at SVA.
Community
With an emphasis on shared experience and community building, the Summer Residency Program provides a platform where participants can build and expand their networks and create lifelong connections with artists, critics, curators and art historians. Access to SVA’s wide-reaching community of arts professionals fosters critical as well as social engagement within the Summer Residency Program community and beyond.

Recent faculty and guest lecturers have included: Suzanne Anker, Dara Birnbaum, Andriana Campbell, Jodie Lyn-Kee-Chow, Ofri Cnaani, Jarrett Earnest, Ayana Evans, Stamatina Gregory, Alicia Grullon, Steve Heller, Tobias Frere-Jones, Sharon Louden, Miguel Luciano, Thyrza Nichols-Goodeve, Anna Ogier-Bloomer, Seph Rodney, David Ross, Jerry Saltz, Mark Tribe, Andrea Tsurumi, Todd Shalom, and Ed Woodham.
Affordable housing is available, as are opportunities to exhibit and present work to the public.
