A weekend of performances by acclaimed choreographer, Trajal Harrell
Trajal Harrell is regarded as one of the most important choreographers of his generation. He achieved critical acclaim with Twenty Looks or Paris is Burning at the Judson Church, a series of works that contrast postmodern dance with the tradition of voguing, which originally emerged out of African-American, Latino, and LGTBQ culture in Harlem. In recent times, he has been relating modernism and the work of the Japanese founder of Butoh dance, Tatsumi Hijikata. At Mudam, Trajal Harrell presents eight performances in the spaces of the museum.
Harrell’s work has been shown both in the USA and internationally, including at: Walker Arts Center (Minneapolis), Festival d’Automne (Paris), Holland Festival (Amsterdam), Festival d’Avignon, Impulstanz (Vienna), Tanz im August (Berlin), Panorama Festival (Rio de Janeiro). He has also staged numerous performances in the context of visual art including at: MoMA (New York), MoMA PS1 (New York), Performa Biennial (New York), Fondation Cartier (Paris), Palais de Tokyo (Paris), The New Museum (New York), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), Serralves Museum (Porto), The Barbican Centre (London), Centre Pompidou Paris and Metz.
