The Broodthaers Society of America is pleased to announced the new MBnb, an integrated live/work venture where the “b” stands for business.

There will be an open house on Sunday, September 16, from 3–6pm co-hosted by Joe Scanlan, artist and founder of the Broodthaers Society, and Janice Guy, artist and cofounder of the former Chelsea gallery Murray Guy. The new MBnb is within strolling distance of Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, which opens its fall season the same day from 4-8pm at 439 West 127th Street.

Situated in the former Reading Room and Archive of the Broodthaers Society of America, MBnb comprises the entire 750-square-foot parlor floor in a 120-year-old brownstone located in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood of Harlem, New York. The parlor floor is a legally zoned professional space that can be used for mounting art exhibitions, launching design prototypes, or conducting private business by appointment. Adjoining private space includes a full bath, queen-sized bed, 300 thread-count linens, and garden views. The entire venue can be booked through the same portal as the original MBnb. There is a minimum stay of four days and a maximum stay of 30.

Guests of the original MBnb, launched in 2015, gave it a five-star rating for overall convenience, comfort, service, and connectivity. With its rich cultural and political histories, Harlem is a vibrant neighborhood in which to conduct business. Travel to and from the new MBnb is available via public transit, taxi, or ride sharing and is convenient from all New York-area airports.

MBnb is an ongoing artwork administered through Airbnb in honor of the great Belgian artist Marcel Broodthaers. It was conceived, in part, to explore what it might mean to “sell something and succeed in life” in what is euphemistically referred to as the sharing economy, fifty years after Broodthaers uttered those famously doomed, aspirational words.

The new MBnb. It’s more than a popup shop—it’s a popup way of life.
