La Maddalena, Sardinia, Italy
September 22–30, 2018
Eterotopia is a research project that works on the Italian territory to create occasions of debate between architecture, art, politics, society and landscape. A meeting place for skills and intentionalities, which conjugate research and territorial policy.
In 2018 Eterotopia proposes a frame dedicated to the realization of a vision for La Maddalena archipelago with an event that will take place from September 22-30, 2018.
Eterotopia wants to inspire eight design visions.
Eight referred to the G8 which failed to take place in Sardinia almost a decade ago, because of this we take the opportunity to imagine the next scenarios of a precious land, a refuge for contradictions and potential.
The eight projects will be investigated at different scales. Each one will be developed through the construction of a floating totem, a territorial overview and a mid-scale project:
1. Outposts: Architecture for the defense of the territory. ENORME Studio
2. Tabula Rasa: A space for a new community. Parasite 2.0
3. The Pedestal of the Statue of Liberty: La Maddalena in the world. Something Fantastic
4. Insularity: Isolation and reconnection. Traumnovelle
5. The Failed Conquest: A stratified failure. Urbz
6. Human Impact: An alien community. Orizzontale
7. Another Nature: The wind, the stars, the Mediterranean scrub. Openfabric
8. Archipelago: A sea full of islands, a land full of sea. False Mirror Office
The designers will be joined by eight advisors, other professionals who will enrich the research carried out by experimenting with architectural solutions in transversal disciplinary fields.
The program of the event will be interspersed with moments of confrontation—internal, with the local population and with the administrations—and talk in which architects and researchers will participate. Stefano Boeri and Luis Callejas have already been confirmed.
Eterotopia is an action-research event that travels on the local-global track. We consider important to work for the first time on such a complex territory and certainly representing a spokesperson for many Italian distinctive traits.
The event will be documented by a collective of video-makers and will be the subject of a subsequent hard copy that we imagine as a triangulation between an atlas, a reinterpretation of a tour guide and a galactic guide! A manual dedicated to the rediscovery of this territory.
