Today, we’re back to our regular 4Columns format after our summer break. Here’s what you’ll find now on the site:
–Melissa Anderson on Jean-Luc Godard’s Sympathy for the Devil
–Nico Israel on this year’s Venice Architecture Biennial
–Johanna Fateman on Olivia Laing’s new novel Crudo
–Aruna D’Souza on Candice Breitz at the Boston MFA
And on September 21, we invite our readers to join us for a night of drinks and dancing at the Ace Hotel New York to celebrate two years of personal, passionate, and political arts criticism. Featuring DJs Bryn Barnett and br0nz3_g0dd3ss, the event is free and open to all (RSVP encouraged).
About
4Columns was launched in 2016 as a weekly online publication covering the gamut of contemporary culture, from literature to film to the visual arts. We are committed to criticism as a writerly genre in which singular passions ignite public discourse. That’s what readers find in each issue: four 1,000-word reviews that are rigorous, eloquent, and deeply invested—along with a growing archive of some of the best arts writing being published today. The project of an endowed foundation, 4Columns is also notable for its commitment to nurturing excellence in criticism by compensating its contributors fairly.
Contributors include Pulitzer-winner Hilton Als, MacArthur grant winner Maggie Nelson, and other notable critics, including Hannah Black, Ed Halter, Alex Kitnick, Chris Kraus, Andrea K. Scott, Aruna D’Souza, and Julia Bryan-Wilson. The advisory board includes Agnes Gund, Lauren Cornell, and Okwui Enwezor.
