Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture invites applications for the following positions:
Professor of Practice in University-wide Art studies
The position is fixed-term for four years. The starting date is January 1, 2019, or appropriate.
The professor will work in the creative and internationally recognized environment of Aalto University and School of ARTS. The position serves the University-Wide Art Studies (UWAS), at the Department of Art that is known for nationally and internationally recognized high quality artistic and art pedagogical activities and research. UWAS currently provides arts-based transdisciplinary education for all Aalto students.
Although the Professor of University-Wide Art Studies is situated in the Department of Art s/he will work with all six schools in Aalto, including School of ARTS, School of Business, School of Chemical Engineer-ing, School of Electrical Engineering and School of Science. The professor will provide leadership to direct, oversee, review, develop, and implement UWAS for Aalto. The professor will work directly with all stake-holders, including students, faculty, and the schools and Aalto University leadership to develop and im-prove planning, communication, and outreach.
The professor will also provide vision for the future as well as pragmatic management of UWAS. The vision includes the future of arts-based transdisciplinary education for all Aalto students, and its connection to Aalto University’s strategy, and other Aalto-wide studies and initiatives. The management includes the day-to-day running of the studies, including curricular planning, study programming, space management, fiscal and employee matters, and communication outreach.

Lecturer in the field of University-Wide Art Studies
for a 4-year-period, beginning in January 1, 2019, or appropriate.
The purpose of the university lecturer is to develop, coordinate, and conduct teaching and research in the area of University-wide Art Studies for all of Aalto University.
University-wide Art Studies (UWAS) is an initiative, which develops arts-based courses for all students of the university, to expand their perspectives and skillsets. The aim is to offer arts-based transdisciplinary education with a strong art and creative practice underpinning, and to develop the necessary practices and structures for their deployment.
The duties of the university lecturer include:
–Participation in coordinating and developing the practices and structures of UWAS under the lead-ership of the professor in charge of University-Wide Art Studies.
–Participating in teaching UWAS courses
–Preparing research, and developing, implementing, and leading events and projects under the leadership of the professor in charge of University-Wide Art Studies
–Participation in the development and administration work of UWAS
The university lecturer will work with the professor in charge of UWAS, to plan, develop, and coordinate the activities, and to research themes, issues, and areas related to art, creativity, pedagogy, and theory within the multidisciplinary university context. It is expected that the university lecturer plan and develop new courses, projects and events. The university lecturer will also be expected to pursue their own line of research and publications in related areas.
