An exhibition co-produced by PCAI and the Contemporary Art Center of Thessaloniki (CACT)
Curator: Syrago Tsiara
On World Environment Day, June 5, at 7:30pm, an innovative contemporary art project that bridges symbolically the Piraeus Port with that of Thessaloniki will be launched at PCAI Piraeus. During this prelude to the Thessaloniki CACT exhibition, Athanasios Polychronopoulos, PCAI Director and Executive Chairman of Polyeco Group, and Syrago Tsiara, Exhibition Curator and CACT Director, will talk about their collaboration and the concept behind the forthcoming show on resilience, sustainability and environmental awareness, whereas visitors will be able to enjoy video art works and installations from the PCAI Collection exhibited at the organisation’s headquarters.
Next stop will be the Contemporary Art Center of Thessaloniki with the Resilient Futures group exhibition opening on June 27. Tsiara states about the show: “How do artists visualize the future of the planet, and how do they critisize people’s relationships in regards to nature, economic systems, policies for development and natural resources exploitation and public space? The Contemporary Art Center of Thessaloniki (CACT) of the State Museum of Contemporary Art of Thessaloniki organizes an exhibition in collaboration with Polyeco Contemporary Art Initiative (PCAI) bringing together visual artists of different origins, who express themselves primarily through video art, and, directly or suggestively, refer to urban, environmental and social resilience and sustainability.” A bilingual catalogue (Greek-English) published by CACT Editions in collaboration with PCAI accompanies the show. The programme is supported by Polyeco Group, the Thessaloniki Port Authority S.A. and Posidonia Events.
Participating artists: Loukia Alavanou, George Drivas, Hertog and Nadler, Vassilis Karouk, Eva Kotakova, Maria Loizidou, Oliver Ressler – Zanny Begg, Mika Rottenberg, Stafanos Tsivopoulos, Saskia Olde Wolbers, Mary Zygouri

More about Polyeco Contemporary Art Initiative (PCAI)
Polyeco Contemporary Art Initiative (PCAI) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2013 by Athanasios Polychronopoulos aiming to inform and raise awareness on environmental issues through contemporary art. The transition to moving image in the last decades as a dominant expressive medium is the main reason for PCAI’s primary focus on video and film.
PCAI directly commissions international and Greek artists to create artworks on environmental issues while also feeding on issues of artistic practice. Up to today, it has commissioned fourteen moving image projects by renowned Greek and international artists; eleven of these works were originally presented in the context of PCAI’s Paratoxic Paradoxes exhibition (curator: Nadja Argyropoulou) at the Benaki Museum in 2017.
PCAI collaborates and supports organizations and artists through a wide range of activities. It has recently supported George Drivas’ Laboratory of Dilemmas presented at the 57th Venice Biennale (Greek Pavilion). Drivas’ work is now shown at the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) once again with the support of PCAI. With commitment and sensitivity to its role in society, PCAI also organizes and implements PCAI Junior, a series of educational programs for children designed to increase environmental awareness through digital art.
