Tucci Russo Studio per l’Arte Contemporanea
PRESENTS
two one – man exhibitions:
RICHARD LONG
and
GIUSEPPE PENONE
“Sulla punta della matita si specchia la pelle dell’ universo”
(The skin of the universe is mirrored upon the pencil tip)
February 11 to april 30, 2006
Tucci Russo Studio per l’Arte Contemporanea opened recently Richard Long and Giuseppe Penone’s one-man exhibitions.
The artists make use of all the spaces of the gallery: Richard Long’s works are displayed in the ground floor area and Giuseppe Penone exhibits his works throughout the 3 rooms sized 750m of the gallery first floor.
Richard Long, although being often included among the “Land Art” group, has always felt himself poetically closer to the “Arte Povera”, exhibiting for the first time in Düsseldorf in 1968 at the Konrad Fischer’s gallery and in the same year taking part in the Amalfi’s Festival of Free Expression “A3: Arte e Azione Povera”.
His artistic creation consists in walking, leaving traces, organizing simple shapes such as circles, lines, ellipses, using whatever the land offers him, in a sort of artist’s self-portrait as a mirror of the history of mankind, where primary elements like stones, logs and mud, assembled by the sculptor’s energy, become art. In the show, recent works are exhibited: Photo Text works, Mud works as well as sculptures made out of materials originated from the Val Pellice area.
Giuseppe Penone is part of the Arte Povera group.
From his first exhibition of 1968 in Turin, until now, he has showed his works in several museums. The latest has been his one-man show at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
In the exhibition entitled “The skin of the universe mirrored upon the pencil tip”, he shows a series of recent works creating a dialogue between graphite as drawing material, and bronze as sculpture material.
These works witness his research on the imprint, seen as involuntary and brute image of the body, and tactile, hence sculptural, knowledge of the world surrounding us.
