KADER ATTIA
Infinities, 2006
Mixed media installation
4 x 6,25 x 11,25 m
Infinities is conceived as a closed environment where the viewer is confronted with a dozen of giant drill bits, each revolving at a slow speed, allowing visitors to appreciate its movement. This rotation gives the impression of a continuing downward pressure. Walls are covered with mirrors and as visitors enter this agonizing hallway, they experience an uncanny, yet poetic, confrontation to the “infinitely small” and “the infinitely big”. The work is claustrophobic yet stretches into infinity.
Kader Attia (born 1970, lives and works in Paris) has been working as an artist for almost a decade. His work oscillates between installations (The Dream Machine at the Venice Biennale 2003 and The Sweat Shop at Art Basel Miami Beach 2004), video-work (Shadow at Video Zone, Tel Aviv 2004), photography (Alter Ego at Sketch Gallery, London 2005) and drawings and wall-paintings (Sweet Sweat, publication available, Andréhn-Schiptjenko 2006).
Infinities is presented in collaboration with Galerie Daniel Templon. More of Kader Attia’s work can be seen at our stand 2.1/K3.
