For many years Bonhams and Butterfields’ Modern & Contemporary Art
department has brought high quality art to the world market. Thanks to
the expertise of our specialists and a booming art market, prices soared
to new heights during our spring sales as bidders paid more than $6.8
million for modern and contemporary art. The May 22nd sale featured
important work by Bruce Nauman, Victor Vasarely, Gustave Loiseau, Adolph
Gottlieb, Tom Wesselmann, Andy Warhol, Kenneth Noland, Patrick Heron and
others. Several key lots sold exceptionally well: a rare work on
canvas by John Baldessari sold for $390,000, an oil on silkscreen by
Martial Raysse brought $216,000 and a small Alexander Calder mobile from
1964 sold for $240,000.
Bonhams and Butterfields is now accepting consignments for the fall
Modern and Contemporary Art sale.
