Abner Preis, Kiki van Eijck, Scholten & Baijings, Wilfried Lentz, Droog Design and D&A Lab. These are only a few of the artists, creative communities, designbureaus and galleries present at the international art fairs Art Rotterdam and Object Rotterdam from 4 to 7 February 2010. “The seventy galleries at Art Rotterdam and twenty design-, crafts and jewellerygalleries at Object Rotterdam each show very diverse and special works. Among them are also a few world premières as f.e. the Total Table Design, a unique combination of Dutch tradition and contemporary design” explains Fons Hof, director of both fairs.

A selection of the works during the 11th edition of Art Rotterdam:
Abner Preis is a storyteller and will tell his stories, on a one to one basis in a specially created enviroment at a prominent place at the fair. Preis writes amiable short stories that always have a happy end. He does it in such a piercing way that it is nearly a hypnotizing experience. This artist was ‘discovered’ by Gabriel Rolt on an off site presentation of artist collective “Trendbeheer” at the 2009 edition of Art Rotterdam.

The first photo of the Turin shroud is the starting point of a series of new works that will be produced over the next few months by six contemporary artists. This is the essence of Wilfried Lentz’ gallerypresentation. Lentz bought the first photo taken of the shroud on an auction in Italy last year. After which he asked national and international topartists to respond to this artwork.

Some of the highlights of the second edition of Object Rotterdam:
Object Rotterdam has the world première of the Total Table Design project. An extraordinary example of Dutch tradition combined with modern design. Dutch designers Kiki van Eijk and studio Scholten & Baijings present their visions on the art of dining. Total Table Design shows a ‘set table’ with table damask, ceramic tableware, glassware and cutlery.

To realize their designs they joined forces with Foundation Mommerskwartier/ Audax Textile Museum Tilburg, Royal Leerdam Crystal and Royal Van Kempen & Begeer.

D&ALab (Design and Art Laboratory) unifies the unique, rigid and non-functional aspects of art to the softness or the hardness of the design-object functionality. The tension between the two forms creates an energy which is palpable into these unique objects. D&ALab goes against the trend of mass production and chooses resolutely for the limited edition. At Object Rotterdam D&Alab presents work of among others Jan Fabre, Michael Lin and Hans op de Beeck.
