Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) will host its First Annual Benefit on Wednesday, July 14th and Thursday the 15th, 2010. This unique two-night celebration will recognize LAND’s contribution to the contemporary art scene of Los Angeles and beyond and include top Los Angeles and New York artists, collectors, curators and contemporary art lovers. The two-night event will begin with an intimate dinner at the Beverly Hills home of Co-Chair Eugenio Lopez, a LAND patron and one of the world’s top 100 contemporary art collectors on July 14th. On the following evening, July 15th, there will be a fabulous cocktail party held at the Sunset Tower Hotel. Gift Horse Project, a collective rotation of over 20 musicians and songwriters, including Rain Phoenix, will be curating two distinct performances for the two evenings. Additionally, new works by a group of LAND artists will be featured, and available for purchase, on both nights.

The First Annual Benefit is being chaired by John Baldessari, Lori DeWolfe, James Franco, Liz Goldwyn, Eugenio Lopez, Salma Hayek Pinault and François-Henri Pinault. Together with the Board of Directors of Los Angeles Nomadic Division, Lisa Anastos, Christine Y. Kim, Shamim M. Momin, Thao Nguyen, Marin Hopper, Esthella Provas and Lauren Taschen, the unique two-night celebration will recognize LAND’s contribution to the contemporary art scene of Los Angeles and beyond.

Tickets range from 250 USD for the July 15th Cocktail Party to 1,000 USD for the July 14th Dinner (which also includes a ticket to the July 15th Cocktail Party). About LAND:
LAND was founded in 2009 by Director Shamim M. Momin, former contemporary curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art and Board Member Christine Y. Kim, Associate Curator of Contemporary Art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Modern Art (LACMA) as a non-profit public art organization committed to curating site- and situation-specific contemporary art projects. LAND supports dynamic and unconventional artistic practices using a tripartite approach:

• Commissioning public projects of site- and situation-specific works with national and international contemporary artists

• Collaborating with a variety of institutions and organizations, such as universities, museums, and theaters as well as other types of spaces, industries, and entities

• Offering additional programs such as performances, workshops, residencies, discussions, and publications

LAND is an ongoing endeavor with three primary types of annual programming: LAND 1.0 projects are large-scale, multi-artist, multi-site exhibitions and single-site group exhibitions, LAND 2.0 projects feature a new commission by a single mid-career or established artist, and LAND 3.0 projects feature new work by lesser known or emerging artists.

Over the past year, LAND has executed NINE projects including: Mi casa es tu casa (2010) by Moris, a series of conceptually linked vinyl texts and digital prints installed on the exterior of The Museum of Contemporary Art; a special exhibition of four films by LA-based artist Jennifer West in a unique collaboration with the Calvin Klein Collection; a one-night, outdoor “happening” featuring musicians composing a live impromptu score to Doug Aitken’s first monumental public installation in LA, “Migration”; and “The Secret Knows,” a thematic group exhibition held in conjunction with the South x Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas, featuring 55 significant contemporary artists. In addition to large-scale art installations, LAND hosts a variety of discussions, collaborations, and events in Los Angeles and beyond.
