Rebecca Warren’s sculptures develop long-standing lines of sculptural enquiry into the history of art. It’s an enquiry that can be traced back to its prehistoric magical inception, through ideals of representation of the human, to modern and postmodern reduction. In this process, inevitably, it takes in the work of canonical male artists such as Boccioni, Degas, Renoir, De Kooning, as well as cartoonist Robert Crumb. Warren’s position regarding her antecedents is very much a fluid one, moving from homage to caricature, from celebration to willful dissolution.

For Counter Editions Warren has exclusively created a new multiple, Zhizni (2010). Modeled in clay and then cast in bronze, Zhizni takes the female figure and pushes it into an exaggerated, distorted form that follows both a cartoonish and classical line.

Zhizni has been published to coincide with Counter Editions’ participation in Christie’s Multiplied Art Fair taking place from 15-18 October. For further information including opening times please visit the Multiplied website www.multipliedartfair.com.

Founded in 2000 Counter Editions commissions and produces prints and multiples by leading contemporary artists including John Baldessari, Peter Doig, Roni Horn, Tracey Emin, Chris Ofili and Rachel Whiteread.
