Renowned for his provocative ‘social documentary’ type films, Polish artist Artur Żmijewski’s practice seeks to connect with society, frequently exposing social conflict, human weakness, and mechanisms of power and oppression. Through interviews, essays, and references to some of his key works, this book explores Żmijewski’s practice, as well as teases out some key questions in relation to his work and its relevance to contemporary art and society.
In 2008/9 Fire Station Artists Studios, Dublin commissioned Artur Żmijewski to make work responding to the changing nature of Polish Irish relations. This is in keeping with Fire Station’s commitment to supporting socially engaged practice and encouraging critique and debate.
