In its second edition the fair includes important novelties: a new section, JUSTMAD DESIGN, dedicated to contemporary design; METROSound, a sound art project in the Metro of Madrid; and Producers’ Desks, a platform dedicated to sharing experience amongst art professionals from all around the world.

JUSTMAD2 (February 17-20, 2011) will initiate once again a “showcase” format with the objective to give visibility to international young artists and galleries characterized by their innovative spirit. JUSTMAD2 also seeks to generate an open debate between galleries, collectors, art experts and the public in general around contemporary art. This year, the fair will host in its new location in the centre of Madrid over 50 exhibitors from 19 countries: USA, Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Canada, Rumania, Portugal, Norway, Italy, Ecuador, Sweden, Russia, Finland, Great Britain, Argentina, Morocco, Mexico, China and France. All the projects exhibited have been carefully selected by a curatorial team composed by Javier Duero, Martí Manen and Ana Luiza Teixeira de Freitas.

JUSTMAD2 will also include a new section, JUSTMAD DESIGN, with the objective to promote the work of contemporary designers who evolve between the world of art and design. The idea is to bring nearer to the public contemporary design and to encourage new collectors to invest in experimental works, unique pieces or limited editions that add an emotional element to daily objects. The selection of JUSTMAD DESIGN, which includes 7 galleries with 2 pieces each, was made by Ana Domínguez Siemens, a curator and journalist specialized in design. She worked in collaboration with David Gill, a London gallerist, and Rocío Bardín, a design expert who both acted as advisors. Amongst the designers, great names such as Fredrikson Stallard, Jaime Hayón o Álvaro Catalán de Ocón will be featured.

Along JUSTMAD DESIGN, METRO SOUND, a section specialized in Sound Art will present in the Metro of Madrid pieces of artists that work with sound and music in an experimental way. The initiative defines an urban itinerary in a series of metro stations, which selected for their location and their specific architecture and acoustics, will form a circuit of subterranean sounds. In each node, the integrated sound system will be converted into hearing channels, producing a collective esthetic experience. This program is a challenge proposed by JUSTMAD to introduce professionals and the public to a first experience with experimental sounds.

Finally, PRODUCERS’ DESKS invites individuals and institutions specialized in promoting the work of international emerging artists, including platforms of production and resources, art residencies, cultural think tanks and editorial projects, in order to encourage a dialogue with the City of Madrid and its cultural agents. Organizations and platforms from Canada, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Great Britain, Germany, Portugal, Brazil, Ecuador, Argentina, Mexico and Morocco were selected for being key in generating important regional and international networks and for their collaborative practice that represent new forms of social interactions, cultural exchange and creation.
