We are extremely pleased to announce a one-person survey of works on paper by Amy Cutler at SITE Santa Fe, including paintings in gouache and graphite drawings created during the past decade.
Amy Cutler: Turtle Fur, a new monograph featuring paintings, drawings, prints, and sculpture with an essay by Laura Steward and a short story and interview by Aimee Bender will be published by Hatje Cantz on the occasion of the exhibition (available in April 2011).
Amy Cutler is internationally known for exquisitely detailed narrative works of art created through a pastiche of personal memories, political observations, and cultural insights. Populated mostly by female figures performing enigmatic tasks and engaged in impossible situations, Cutler’s works expose the emotional complexities of real life within a richly imagined universe.
One-person museum exhibitions of works by Amy Cutler have taken place at the Indianapolis Museum of Art; the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia; the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City; the Weatherspoon Art Museum, Greensboro, NC, the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, Brunswick, ME and others. She has also participated in major surveys including, among many others, Global Feminisms at the Brooklyn Museum; ARS 06 at KIASMA Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki; Greater New York at MoMA PS 1; and the 2004 Whitney Biennial.
Works by the artist are included in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art; the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; the Whitney Museum of American Art; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; the Indianapolis Museum of Art; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Weatherspoon Art Museum, Greensboro, NC; the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles and many other distinguished institutions.
