Issue 1: Welfare Statement

Online at www.journalment.org

…ment is an online journal for contemporary culture, art and politics published in irregular intervals. Through a multi-disciplinary set of editorial forms, the journal aims to reflect on current societal issues and debates.

Issue 01 of …ment aims at questioning and rethinking the role of the state in public life. As the increasing privatization of all aspects of social organization has rearranged the limits of the public sphere, how can we envisage the role of the state in the formation of civility? What are the tools available to conceive future models? Through a varied collection of contributions from thinkers, artists and cultural workers, this first issue of …ment seeks to address the crisis of the welfare state.

Contributors for this issue include Franco Bifo Berardi, writer, social theorist and media-activist, Milan; Pia Bolognesi, researcher in experimental media, Milan/New York; Patrick Coyle, artist and writer, London; DOXA, research group, London; Charles Knevitt, journalist and author on architecture, London; Margit Mayer, Professor at John F. Kennedy-Institute, Freie Universität, Berlin; Markus Miessen, architect and writer, Berlin; The Public School, self-organized educational programme, Los Angeles; The University for Strategic Optimism, research group and activists, London. Also included in the journal is an excerpt of Hannah Arendt‘s The Human Condition (1958)

The printed journal includes a special edition by Elmgreen&Dragset.

The launch event is planned in collaboration with Archive Kabinett and Chiara Figone. For more information please visit our website.

…ment is an initiative run by Federica Bueti, Benoît Loiseau and Clara Meister.
