Prague Quadrennial of Performance
Design and Space
The World’s Largest Scenography Event
16–26 June 2011
Prague, Czech Republic
The 12th Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space, a leading world artistic event held once every four years, returns to Prague, Czech Republic, in June 2011. The upcoming edition of the Prague Quadrennial will present a record number of 62 participating countries to the traditional competitive world exhibition of performance design and architecture, introducing designs from Ruhrtriennale, Bregenzer Festspiele, and the SITI Theatre Company, as well as the work of theatre and visual artists such as João Brites, Yukio Horio, and Pavel Althamer.
As part of the Prague Quadrennial, Intersection: Intimacy and Spectacle will transform Prague, introducing to the city center an ephemeral artistic dwelling composed of thirty boxes. These boxes will be inhabited for the duration of the Prague Quadrennial by performative projects realized by scenographers, performers, choreographers, visual artists, film directors, drama theatres, installation artists, fashion designers, writers, and painters, etc… Thus suggesting an interesting cohabitation: where else could you find an installation gathering such varied artists as Romeo Castellucci, Markus Schinwald, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Anna Viebrock, Josef Nadj, and many others? Spectacles will cover the entire city of Prague, thanks to various site-specific projects and installations, created by Árpád Schilling / Krétakör, Claudia Bosse / theatercombinat, and many others.
Visitors will also be able to explore various disciplines essential to the performing arts thanks to projects focused on lighting and sound design, architecture, and costumes, as well as talks with personalities such as Arata Isozaki, Es Devlin, Mirosław Bałka, Richard Sennett, Alan Read, and many more.
Over 40,000 visitors from all over the world are expected to attend, making Prague the center of the performance world for those very special 11 days, from
16–26 June 2011.
