Michael Kohn Gallery at The Armory Show and ADAA The Art Show
The Armory Show
Pier 94
Booth #818
Michael Kohn Gallery is pleased to present a solo-booth of new and recent work by Los Angeles-based digital collage artists and collaborators, Simmons & Burke. Known for their grand collages depicting chaotic and densely woven landscapes, Simmons & Burke appropriate images culled from the internet, often using up to 10,000 disparate images in each piece. This expression of the digital present is underscored by the sound element that often accompanies their work. This sound collage is compiled from thousands of internet sources including clips from movies, music, amateur recordings of fiction, et al. and then programed on a Mac Mini using a non-linear algorithm which remixes the sound to infinity. Simmons & Burke’s work is held in such prestigious collections as La Coleccion Jumex, Mexico City, the Guggenheim Museum, New York, and the Me Collectors Room, Berlin.
ADAA The Art Show
Booth # A14
Michael Kohn Gallery is pleased to participate in this year’s ADAA The Art Show with a booth focusing on historical, California-based work. Rarely seen work by such important California artists as Wallace Berman and Bruce Conner, whose Estates are represented by Kohn Gallery, will demonstrate these artists’ important contributions to methods of appropriation and use of technology in the medium of collage. Early work by Southern California light and space-influenced painter, Joe Goode will be unveiled alongside work by Hard-Edge minimalist, John McLaughlin. A selection of vintage prints by Charles Brittin, and sculpture by John McCracken and Sol Lewitt will also be featured prominently in the booth.
