Centre for Contemporary Art Derry~Londonderry has grown out of the Context Gallery, an organisation which has supported young and emerging artists from the north of Ireland, and showcased their international peers for twenty years. New Co-Directors of the CCA Derry~Londonderry, Aileen Burns and Johan Lundh will connect their immediate context with the international scene by bringing international artists to the city to produce new works and sending Irish artists abroad. The new venue will foster a wide range of artistic, curatorial and critical practices through four streams: on-site exhibitions, off-site projects, public programmes, and in- and outbound residencies.
Derry or Londonderry is the second-largest city in Northern Ireland and the fourth-biggest city in Ireland. In 2013, it will become the inaugural UK City of Culture, infusing new creative and financial energy into the city. Nestled between the walled city centre and the Fountain neighbourhood, CCA Derry~Londonderry will play an integral part in connecting the disparate neighbourhoods of the city to each other and the world.
Programme Launch, Seminar and Celebration
On Saturday, March 31st, 2012, CCA Derry~Londonderry will officially introduce the venue’s programming and website during an afternoon seminar with representatives from leading art venues locally, nationally, and internationally.
