Galerie Michel Rein is delighted to announce that it is now representing LaToya Ruby Frazier (b. 1982;
Braddock, Pennsylvania; lives and works between New Brunswick [NJ], Braddock [PA], and New York [NY]).
LaToya Ruby Frazier’s work explores the psychological connections of intergenerational relationships within her family and community through photographs and videos that blur the line between self-portraiture and social documentary.
Her work is informed by late 19th- and early 20th-century modes of representation in documentary practice. With an emphasis on postmodern conditions, class, and capitalism, Frazier investigates issues of propaganda, politics, and the importance of subjectivity.
Her work has been shown in numerous group exhibitions that include the 2012 Whitney Museum Biennial, the 2011 Incheon Korea Biennale, the Andy Warhol Museum Biennial 2011, PS1 MoMA Greater New York 2010, and the New Museum of New York Triennial in 2009. Her upcoming projects include solo exhibitions at the Brooklyn Museum, New York, and Contemporary Arts Museum Houston.
The Galerie Michel Rein will present a solo project by LaToya Ruby Frazier for the Art Positions section of Art Basel Miami Beach in December 2012.
