miart – International Fair of Modern and Contemporary Art, on the scene since 1995, has now reached its 18th annual edition. miart is a fair in which modern and contemporary voices establish a dialogue of ongoing exchanges and more or less explicit references; an opportunity to ponder the continuity between past and present.
Under the new Artistic Director Vincenzo de Bellis, and with the work of a prestigious team of national and international curators and experts, miart 2013 sets out to emphasize this aspect even more forcefully, while working on the principle of “crossing” of different disciplines, with the aim of also connecting audiences from different spheres, to create an ideal place of communication among types of knowledge.
miart 2013′s team will be composed of: Andrew Bonacina, Curator, International Project Space, Birmingham; Florence Derieux, Director, FRAC Champagne-Ardenne, Reims; Fionn Meade, Writer and Curator, New York; Michela Pelizzari and Federica Sala, Partner of PS Design Consultants, Milan; Alessandro Rabottini, Curator at Large, GAMeC, Bergamo; Andrea Viliani, Critic and Curator, Milan; Donatella Volontè, miart’s head of modern sector.
Mousse, the Milan-based and internationally active publishing company, will be in charge of Visual Communication and Design.
The Fair
miart 2013 is divided into four separate sections:
Established: presenting galleries that have operated for years at a very high level for the promotion of modern and contemporary art.
Selection by miart 2013 Selection Committee.
Emergent: dedicated to young, avant-garde galleries recognized for their activities of experimental artistic research.
Selection by Andrew Bonacina.
THENnow: an invitational section, a face-off between an artist from an “older” generation and an artist coming a younger one.
Selection by Florence Derieux and Andrea Viliani.
Object: a selection of galleries promoting contemporary design objects, interpreted as limited editions and appreciated as artworks.
Selection by Michela Pelizzari and Federica Sala.
Professional meetings
miart 2013 aims to become a reference point for the art world, bringing to Milan a number of its key figures as part of the public program miartalks, a platform for conferences, conversations and interviews involving international museum directors, artists, critics, curators, and collectors.
miartalks series is curated by Alessandro Rabottini and Fionn Meade.
Collectors’ program
miart 2013 is engaged in intense work to greatly expand its range of collectors, attracting potential buyers from abroad and from emerging nations. The collectors will find special opportunities, with an updated VIP program run by Damiana Leoni an experienced professional in the field.
