Galerie Ernst Hilger has been representing American Pop Art-artist Mel Ramos for more than 20 years. In his works he combines Pin-Ups with consumer goods—such as a model on a pack of Life Savers with the striking title Five Flavour Frieda (sculpture from 2010). Thus, the woman becomes a branding, an object of desire. The focus is on the masculine perspective on the female gender which serves as an object of pleasure. The artist continues to remain faithful to this concept in his latest works.

For his series of “Peek-a-Boo” paintings and light boxes, Mel Ramos draws inspiration from the erotic images made popular by the mutoscope, a device for viewing motion pictures. Ramos has translated this early technical innovation to the canvas in the form of his light boxes designed to provide the viewer with a voyeuristic peek through the dark silhouette of a keyhole.

We are pleased to announce that Hilger modern/contemporary owns the exclusive worldwide rights to present Mel Ramos’s new light boxes.
