Regen Projects will open its new 20,000 square-foot gallery building, designed by architect Michael Maltzan, at 6750 Santa Monica Boulevard, in the heart of Hollywood, on September 22nd with with an inaugural exhibition featuring works by 31 of the gallery’s artists.
A testament to the long history of support that Regen Projects has given to art in Los Angeles, as well as to the international reach of the gallery, the inaugural exhibition reflects the depth of cutting edge contemporary art practices that Regen Projects continues to foster. New and recent sculptures, mixed media installations, paintings, drawings, and photographs will be on view, along with site-specific works by Lawrence Weiner and Dan Graham inspired by the new gallery. Several artists will debut new pieces informed by signature bodies of work, including a folded copper sculpture by Walead Beshty, assemblages from the “Autoconstrucción” series by Abraham Cruzvillegas, a large five-panel collage by Elliott Hundley, a fabric work by Sergej Jensen, a newly commissioned Liz Larner sculpture, a Glenn Ligon ”Stranger Study,” a surfer drawing by Raymond Pettibon, a large c-print from Wolfgang Tillmans‘ new headlight series, and a unique self-portrait from Gillian Wearing. The inaugural exhibition also presents work by Doug Aitken, Matthew Barney, John Bock, Rachel Harrison, Toba Khedoori, Gabriel Kuri, Scott McFarland, Marilyn Minter, Catherine Opie, Elizabeth Peyton, Jack Pierson, Lari Pittman, Willem de Rooij, Gary Simmons, Lizzie Fitch/Ryan Trecartin, James Welling, Sue Williams, and Andrea Zittel.
