Capital A Foundation
Amsterdam Art Weekend is organized by the Capital A Foundation, established in 2011 by representatives of Amsterdam’s art world, including the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, various Amsterdam galleries, and a number of private collectors. Capital A’s objective is to highlight Amsterdam’s role as a springboard for talented young and international artists, to promote the city as a national and international hub of creative exchange, and to attrack widespread interest for contemporary arts.
Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten
Every year, the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (est. 1870) selects some 25 artists from all over the world out of a total of more than 1,500 applications. The two-year residency programme located within the walls of the former Kavallerie-Kazerne (Cavalry Barracks) provides the artists with individual workshops, as well as technical, artistic, and theoretical facilities and support.
