During his 15-day residency at the Brodsky Center in early November of 2012, Anatsui and McKeown collaborated on a new body of work in handmade paper. The “Learned Papers” series is the beginning of a new artistic exploration in handmade paper for the artist. Anatsui, with the help of McKeown, created eight unique works as well as a small edition. The works will premiere the night of the Brodsky Center Gala 2013, on Thursday, January 31st. The first available work for purchase will be part of the live auction programming. The Brodsky Center for Innovative Editions at Rutgers University is a nonprofit organization where artists are invited to create two- and three-dimensional editions in print and/or handmade paper in collaboration with the Center’s master printers and master papermakers. Education and diversity are central to the mission of the Brodsky Center, and the Center has consistently supported artists who make challenging work.
Since its inception in 1986, over 300 artists have collaborated with the Brodsky Center’s master printers and master papermakers. The editions that the Brodsky Center has published and are included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Cleveland Museum of Art; Baltimore Museum of Art; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The Newark Museum; Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Bibliothèque nationale de France, Paris; Stadtmuseum Berlin; Australian National Gallery, Canberra; and other international institutions, as well as many private collections.
