Russia Guest of Honour
28 March–1 April 2013
Opening (by invitation only): 27 March
Grand Palais
Avenue Winston Churchill
75008 Paris
An easterly wind is blowing over Art Paris Art Fair 2013: the springtime event for modern and contemporary art in Paris.
From 28th March to 1st April 2013, 144 international galleries present a panorama of international creation covering 20th-century modern and contemporary art, emerging work from the 21st century, as well as photography and contemporary design.
Anchored in European roots, the fair is dedicated to the promotion of the art scenes of the East, in particular Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Asia. This year, Russia has been invited as guest of honour. A central space in the fair will be dedicated to some ten galleries from a number of cities in Russia, including Yekaterinburg, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don and Vladivostok, while some 20 European galleries will show work by Russian artists.
Also new this year is the section titled “Promises,” dedicated to young galleries; and another called Art Books-Librairie Artcurial for specialist publishers. Finally, the ARTDESIGN PLATFORM features nine galleries that explore the relationship between design and contemporary art.
Art Books-Librairie Artcurial: a new space for art and artists’ books
Art Paris Art Fair launches a new section for art and artists’ books in cooperation with both the art and coffee table books section of French National Union of Publishers (SNE) presided by Pascale Le Thorel, and Artcurial art bookshop. This section includes some 30 publishers. For the duration of the fair, artists, authors and art historians will meet the public and sign their books. See the book signing programme.
Art Books-Librairie Artcurial is supported by the French National Union of Publishers (SNE), The Art and Coffee Table books section of the SNE and Artcurial art bookshop. The space is designed by Friso Kramer in cooperation with Catherine Houard Gallery.
The Canson® Prize at Artparis Art Fair 2013
The 2013 Canson® Prize for Art and Paper is on show Art Paris Art Fair. Since 2010, the Canson® Foundation has awarded the annual Canson® Prize through a jury presided by a leading figure from the world of art and culture to an artist whose work demonstrates innovation in the world of art and paper.
The jury, presided by artist Yan Pei-Ming, will meet during the fair, where the work of the five finalists will be exhibited—Emmanuel Régent (France), Mathias Duvillé (Argentina), Virginia Chiota (Zimbabwe), Alexander Schellow (Germany), Jorinde Voigt (Germany)—in order to choose the winner of the 2013 Canson® Prize. The name of the winner will be revealed on 4th June at the Petit Palais, where the work of the 39 short-listed artists for the award will be exhibited from 4th to 16th June 2013.

Fossile.1990 installation by Elise Morin
French artist Elise Morin will present Fossile, 1990, a large-scale installation at the entrance of the fair to underline the “plastic” footprint of our time. The brand Electrolux—which aims to denounce the excessive and absurd use of plastic bags—wanted to support the performance of this contemporary and committed artwork.
