Art-Athina, one of the longest-lasting contemporary art fairs in Europe, is the largest annual visual arts event in Greece. This year the fair welcomes more than 800 artists from four continents, and presents a varied parallel programme composed of talks, round tables, presentations, exhibitions and interactive activities with the presence of numerous institutions and museums.

A rich parallel programme has been prepared in collaboration with acclaimed curators, art galleries and artists from Greece and abroad.
Marina Fokidis curates the Open Form project, an open structure exhibition. Internationally established galleries will participate with one piece or a series of artworks of distinguished artists. The artists list proudly includes names like Yael Bartana (Sommer Contemporary Art), Steven Claydon (Sadie Coles HQ), Ra di Martino (Monitor), Nooshin Farhid (The agency), James Franco (Peres Projects), Jeremy Deller (Art : Concept), Adrian Paci (Peter Kilchmann), Roman Signer (Art : Concept), Prem Sahib (Galleria Lorcan O Neil Roma), Yehudit Sasportas (Sommer Contemporary Art), Marinella Senatore (Peres Projects), Nedko Solakov (Arndt), Juergen Teller (Lehmann Maupin), and Guido van der Werve (Monitor). Open Form exhibition will be providing a view on contemporary art and production, and together one more opportunity for visitors to get a close and direct experience of contemporaneity. It will be a platform for international exchange of contemporary art and practice.
For the Symposia Project, Marina Fokidis has invited renowned international art personalities to present and discuss curatorial methodologies and challenges. Chiara Bertola will “negotiate” the idea of being a curator, Kimberly Bradley will coordinate most of the talks, Florence Derieux will present “The Battle for Art, Wine and Love,” while Galit Eilat will analyze the concept of curating in a conflict zone. From his side Juan A. Gaitán will present the Berlin Biennial 2014 while Jens Maier-Rothe’s will explain why Institutions don’t cry. Ricardo Nicolau will stress the concept of curating in an era of ideological cuts, Filipa Ramos will talk about curatorial practices, Alya Sebti about artistic exchanges and local audiences in a biennial’s context and Marieke van Hal will highlight the concept of the Biennial as an institution. Kaelen Wilson-Goldie’s presentation is titled Adjectives Fibbing Before Desires while Adnan Yildiz will focus on the notion of audience and curatorial practices.

Artemis Potamianou curates and presents the Platform project @ Art-Athina. The objective of the project is to map artistic action as it is produced in the context of collective initiatives by artists who decide to join forces in seeking answers to artistic questions. Platform Project will present 46 platforms, from 17 countries with more than 500 artists.

Artemis Potamianou also curates the Art-Athina Contemporaries: Paradise Lost exhibition. The curator stresses the main inspiration for the exhibition came from Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, an allegory that can be interpreted as an existential journey. The exhibition features a labyrinth made of cheap materials associated with the urban landscape, with the concept of “transition” and “moving” and with all the negative connotations of an economic downturn. In this maze viewers are called upon to experience a journey that is meant to take them from hell to purgatory and heaven. Along this journey the works guide and complement one another. It is an action-exhibition that showcases the contemporary artistic activity as it is produced and presented today. The artists in the exhibition come from the exhibiting galleries.
