miart – international fair of modern and contemporary art
Fieramilanocity
Viale Scarampo, Gate 5 – Pav 3
Milan, Italy
The upcoming edition of miart, Milan’s international fair of modern and contemporary art, will take place at Fieramilanocity March 28–30, 2014 with a professionals’ and collectors’ preview on March 27.
After the successful 18th edition of miart, the first under the artistic direction of Vincenzo de Bellis, taking the Milan art fair to an international level, the new edition will refine the high quality of the participating galleries, divided into four sections:
Established (Masters, Contemporary, First Step*), a very high-level selection of galleries promoting modern and contemporary art.
Emergent, for young avant-garde galleries that focus on experimental artistic research.
THENnow, and invitational section, a face-off between an artist from an “older” generation and a younger colleague.
Object, for galleries promoting contemporary design objects in limited editions, appreciated as artworks.
*First Step is a brand new sub-category of Established, starting in 2014, for nationally and internationally renowned galleries participating at miart for the first or second time, and for galleries moving from Emergent to Established. Participation in this category will be possible only for two consecutive years.
Applicants to each of the sections will be reviewed by the different Selection Committees; preference will be given to proposals with a strong vision and supported by exemplary works.
The miart 2014 team is composed of:
Alessandro Rabottini, Curator at Large, GAMeC, Bergamo and MADRE, Naples: Curatorial Coordinator
Donatella Volontè: Curator, Masters Established
Andrew Bonacina, independent curator, London: Curator, Emergent
Giovanni Carmine, Director, Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen, St. Gallen and Alexis Vaillant, Chief Curator, CAPC Bordeaux: Co-Curators, THENnow
Federica Sala, Partner PS Design Consultants, Milan: Curator, Object
For the 2014 miartalks, a platform for conferences, conversations and interviews involving international artists, designers, museum directors, fashion designers, critics, curators and collectors will focus on concepts of Production and Distribution and will develop its program in different variations, addressing the four fields that make Milan central in the world: Art, Collection, Design and Fashion.
miart will offer an intensive VIP Program coordinated by Damiana Leoni involving a series of events and openings in the main Museums, Art Spaces and Foundations in Milan during the days of the fair, as well as visits to private collections in the city and vicinity. The VIP program will bring a large number of collectors, professionals and art lovers to the city from all over the world.
Mousse will be responsible for miart’s visual design and communications.
Mousse is a bimonthly magazine published in Italian and English, a publisher of catalogues, essays and curatorial projects, artists’ books and editions. Mousse is also an agency that creates coordinated images for contemporary, avant-garde visual and cultural communication.
Architect Martino Berghinz will design the fair’s layout, following up on last year’s highly acclaimed design.
Michela Pelizzari will be in charge of Communication Strategy and PR, working closely with the Press Office and VIP Relations.
Applications must be completed online; the deadline is Monday, October 28, 2013.
