For the first time in the magazine’s 32-year history, Border Crossings is publishing an issue with two different covers. Readers will have the opportunity to select one of two striking covers: Mowry Baden‘s Marsupial, or Jessica Stockholder‘s Related, or collectors may want both.
In the two feature interviews for this issue, rich associations between the artists were evident, making relatively simple the decision to give each interview an individual cover.
The issue focuses heavily on sculpture—and the way it slides between two and three dimensions—with Baden, Stockholder and a special section on Roy Ascott, including images and the artist’s reflections on his own work. Stephen Horne discusses Thomas Demand‘s work in relationship to electronic mass media and communications culture.
Robert Enright’s column focuses on the autobiography and recent documentary on Eric Fischl, and Meeka Walsh explores the enigma of Bas Jan Ader. The Art Pages include three new works by Aganetha Dyck. These sculptures mark a departure, or rather return, to her earlier medium of wool works. The Borderviews section includes spotlights on Michael Dumontier and Neil Farber‘s latest collaboration, “Animal’s with Sharpies,” as well as Matthew Carver and Shawn Kuruneru. Also, an extensive Crossovers section: “Safar/Voyage”; Tom Lovatt; Janet Werner, Melanie Rocan, Tammy Salzl; Imagining Winnipeg: History Through the Photographs of L.B.
