Curated by Andrea Bruciati

It is the turn of a solo show at Galleria Massimodeluca which presents Reginae by Dario Pecoraro (26 October to 6 December 2013), curated by Andrea Bruciati. This young artist, represented by the gallery and one of the protagonists of the gallery’s inaugural project Ni Dieu Ni Maître and the group show Yellowing of the Lunar Consciousness, will be displaying fifteen or so new paintings at the Mestre space. The pieces have been specially created for the event and will give fans and collectors the opportunity to completely immerse themselves in Pecoraro’s material yet highly evocative painted world.

“Dario Pecoraro’s Reginae brings an end to Galleria Massimodeluca‘s tribute to Soren Kierkegaard (1813–1855) in the bicentenary of his birth. While Teresa Cos took one of the philosopher’s most important works for exploration, for Nicola Ruben Montini it was a minor, largely ignored work which provoked a reflection upon the current state of being an artist, now it is Kierkegaard’s biography which Pecoraro pays tribute to,” explains Andrea Bruciati, curator. “There is an obvious reference to lifelong unrequited love in the form of Regina Olsen (1822–1904), and the works spring from this rather melancholic pretext to suggestively evoke a bygone age, when paintings became rich impasto in warm hues and tones. Recalling fleeting scenes and dreamscapes, Pecoraro renews a deep bond with the symbolic value, never fully explored, of the most urgent demands of painted art. His works, developed around a precious thread of light, are the soft sediments of an unwaning sensuality, with an almost late nineteenth-century feel, and are alive with the mystery of the female in all her barely concealed and primordial beauty.”

The Reginae project also includes an open event at the conclusion of the exhibition when the gallery will be the setting for talks from sector experts and a conversation with the artist himself.
