Material Art Fair, Mexico City’s new international contemporary art fair focused on emerging practices, is pleased to announce its premiere edition, which will take place from February 6 through 9, at the convention center of the Hilton Mexico City Reforma, in the buzzing historic center of Mexico City.

Material will showcase 40 invited galleries, project spaces, and non-profits, all of which have been selected on the basis of the quality of their proposals as well as their general commitment to adventurous programming and support for emerging artists.

The fair will feature a strong focus on Mexico’s much talked-about project space scene, as well as exhibitors from across the Americas and Europe. As for editorials and bookstores, New York’s legendary Printed Matter will be joining the fair together with Ediciones Acapulco, Casa Bosques and Casa Vecina from Mexico City.

Material’s selection committee is comprised of Paola Santoscoy, Director of Museo Experimental El Eco; Guillermo Santamarina, chief curator at Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil; Dorothée Dupuis, independent curator; and Michel Blancsube, Senior Curator at the Jumex Collection. Independent curator and ex-director of Galerie Crone in Berlin, Polina Stroganova, is a special advisor to the fair.

The fair’s organizers are Daniela Elbahara and Brett W Schultz—co-directors of Mexico City’s Yautepec gallery—along with Isa Castilla, private art advisor and director of the Material’s VIP Program.
