For his 11th one-man show at Deweer Gallery, the German sculptor Stephan Balkenhol makes an exhibition with new works made exclusively for the show.
Benjamin Moravec – Le Royaume Part. V (Les Orphelins Volontaires)
After previous solo shows in 2006 and 2010 this is the third exhibition of the French artist at Deweer Gallery. The exhibition, that will be composed entirely with new works (paintings, objects and a central installation), is the second part of a trilogy that started with exhibition Les Jeux de l’Effroi – Le Royaume Part IV Benjamin Moravec presented at ikob – Museum for Contemporary Art, Eupen, Belgium, last summer.
The artist is wondering whether we will remain human beings, now that science is progressively turning us into superior beings, if not immortal ones. The images that surround us are preparing us for the new age. Les Orphelins Volontaires (The Voluntary Orphans) stand for the first generation that will need to make the choice for change. The blog, a popular medium of contemporary expression for this generation, is at the same time a personal site and a public platform for exchange of personal ‘archives.’ In the blog images are being repeated and blended infinitely; the law of natural selection will decide about their eventual survival.
