Spring 2014 programme highlights, including Frieze Art Fair New York and Art Basel in Hong Kong

Latitude: Platform for Brazilian Art Galleries Abroad is delighted to announce its programme for spring 2014. In May, the project will see seven Brazilian galleries displaying both leading and emerging contemporary art at Frieze New York and the Outsider Art Fair. To coincide with Frieze, Latitude will be presenting a special evening event at The Museum of Modern Art to celebrate Brazilian artists on show in New York, which will be comprised of a panel discussion and reception. This event will also mark the launch of Plataforma, a new digital iPad publication about the Brazilian art world published in partnership with seLecT Magazine. Latitude is also delighted to be supporting three galleries at Art Basel in Hong Kong and will be presenting an Art Salon talk at the fair in partnership with Asia Art Archive.

Frieze Art Fair New York
Stand highlights from the galleries exhibiting at Frieze Art Fair New York 2014 includes A Gentil Carioca‘s presentation of work by Maria Nepomuceno, which draws on Brazilian craft traditions, using weaving and braiding techniques to create biomorphic sculptural forms; Casa Triângulo will present photographic works by Brazilian artist Yuri Firmeza; Galeria Fortes Vilaça will show work by renowned artists Erika Verzutti, Jac Leirner, João Maria Gusmão + Pedro Paiva, Janaina Tschäpe, Rivane Neuenschwander and Tiago Carneiro da Cunha; Galeria Jaqueline Martins will present work in a range of media by Brazilian artist Regina Vater, which looks at the relationship between society, nature and technology; Mendes Wood DM will present work by young Brazilian artists Paulo Nazareth, Lucas Arruda and Adriano Costa and Vermelho will be bringing work by artists Dora Longo Bahia, Marcelo Cidade, Nicolas Robbio, Andre Komatsu, Carmela Gross, Odires Mlászho, Detanico Lain and Cinthia Marcelle. Galeria Estação will be taking part in the Outsider Art Fair in New York, which runs from 8 to 11 May.

Plataforma
Latitude is delighted to announce the launch of a Plataforma, a new digital iPad publication about the Brazilian art world which has been published in partnership with seLecT Magazine. The app includes an extensive research survey on contemporary artistic practice in Brazil, which was carried out by renowned New York-based curator and writer Neville Wakefield. The app includes essays by Wakefield along with a curated selection of artist’s portfolios. Alongside this study will be additional essays by Rodrigo Moura and Kiki Mazzucchelli as well as a selection of video interviews with leading figures from the art world in Brazil such as Paulo Herkenhoff and Ana Letícia Fialho. Plataforma can be downloaded at no cost via Apple Store from 7 May.

Art Basel in Hong Kong
Stand highlights from the galleries exhibiting at Art Basel in Hong Kong 2014 include Casa Triângulo bringing work by Albano Afonso, Eduardo Berliner, Joana Vasconcelos and Mariana Palma and Galeria Nara Roesler bringing work by Lucia Koch, Eduardo Coimbra, Isaac Julien, Carlito Carvalhosa, Vik Muniz and Artur Lescher to the fair. Mendes Wood DM will also be taking part at Art Basel in Hong Kong.

Guided tours of exhibition Lygia Clark: the Abandonment of Art, 1948–1988 will be available throughout the reception.
