ARCOmadrid would like to extend a reminder that September 19th is the deadline for applications to #Solo Projects Latin America, a special section of the fair and one of the many activities that each year make ARCOmadrid a key meeting place for art world professionals from across the globe.

#Solo Projects is a curated section of ARCOmadrid dedicated to contemporary art from Latin America. For the coming edition of the fair, #Solo Projects programme directors Irene Hoffman (Phillips Director and Chief Curator, SITE Santa Fe) and Lucía Sanromán (independent curator and writer; Co-curator of SITE Santa Fe’s 2014 Biennial Unsettled Landscapes) have invited emerging Latin American curators Miguel A. López (writer, artist, investigator and member of Red de Conceptualismos del Sur), Kiki Mazzucchelli (curator and writer, London/ São Paulo) and Emiliano Valdés (Associate Curator, 10th Gwangju Biennale; Chief Curator, MAMM, Medellin) to identify the most up-to-date issues in contemporary Latin American art, and to use those themes in shaping the selection of galleries participating in this year’s programme. This new thematic structure will revolve around three themes that express vital ideas and areas of research and artistic production central to contemporary art in Latin America today: The Legacy of Latin American Avant-Gardes, Rethinking Formalism: Abstraction and Vernacular Sources, and Gender Performativity and Research-Based Practices in Latin America.

In addition, each of the three #Solo Projects guest curators will present the results of their work during the #ARCOmeetings, where leading world professionals are invited to share and exchange ideas and projects. #ARCOmeetings will also include discussions on the current-day state of biennials, institutions and museums led by Natalia Majluf (Director, Mali Museum, Lima), Juan A. Gaitán (Curator, 8 Berlin Biennale), Adriano Pedrosa (independent curator), and Brooke David Anderson (Executive Director, Prospect New Orleans) in parallel to the renowned European and Ibero-American Museums Meeting led by the Museo Reina Sofia. The role of the institution as producer will be the focus of the meeting led by Sarah Arrhenius (Director, Bonniers Konsthall, Stockholm) and finally, a series of meetings on curating emerging art and the analysis of non-institutional organizing structures, will be directed by Simon Castets (Director, Swiss Institute, New York) and Hans Ulrich Obrist (Co-Director, Exhibitions and Programmes and Director of International Projects, Serpentine Gallery, London), Christian Kobald (independent curator) and Chris Sharp (writer and independent curator, Co-Director of project space Lulu and Co-Curator of Opening at ARCOmadrid 2015), Manuel Segade (independent curator, Rotterdam) or Ziba Ardalan (Founder and Director, Parasol Unit for Contemporary Art, London).

A hallmark of ARCOmadrid, the wide-ranging #ARCOmeetings provide an opportunity for galleries, artists and art world professionals to develop important relationships in the hands-on context of an exciting international art fair.

ARCOmadrid 2015 will take place February 25th to March 1st, 2015. Colombia will be the featured nation at this year’s edition of the fair.
