March 27–29, 2015
Inauguration: Thursday, March 26
Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC)
Building on its success in Paris, FIAC has selected the city of Los Angeles for the launch of its first American edition. Directed by Aurélia Chabrillat, FIAC LA will be held in Los Angeles from Friday, March 27 through Sunday, March 29, 2015 in the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC). The vernissage will take place on Thursday, March 26.
Downtown LA has become a vibrant urban environment with greatly expanding cultural institutions, galleries and artists’ studios. Los Angeles is a portal for Asia, Mexico, Latin and South America and we look forward to welcoming collectors from those countries as well as from North America and Europe. Furthermore, FIAC’s broad overview of artists and galleries, ranging from Modern art to the most emerging trends, is a marker of its character. FIAC prides itself on its integration in the social and cultural fabric of its home city, in absolute cohesion with the public and private cultural sectors.
Galleries
The general section of FIAC LA will feature over 140 galleries specializing in Modern and Contemporary Art, Emerging trends and Design galleries. FIAC LA will pursue FIAC’s commitment to promote the emerging talents of the international art scene with the launch of a dedicated section showing emerging contemporary artists by galleries open since 2007.
“Hors les Murs” artistic programs
One of the defining factors of FIAC’s identity is the unrivalled scope and quality of its signature “Hors les Murs,” meaning literally “Beyond the walls” cultural program. Over the years, this event has established itself as an emblematic aspect of the fair and—with more than 500,000 visitors during FIAC week—it is a resounding success with the public, collectors, art world professionals and press alike. In Los Angeles, FIAC will propose a program of monumental artworks, performances, artist’s films and conferences presented inside and around the fair, from Downtown’s burgeoning art scene to the Convention Centre.
FIAC LA will present a new project of indoor and outdoor artworks curated by Magali Arriola, curator at Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo, Mexico City. Previously, she was Chief Curator at the Museo Tamayo (2009‒2011) and Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil (1997–2000). Located inside the fair, galleries can present monumental works that go beyond the scope of regular gallery booths in ideal conditions that offer enhanced visibility for the artworks. The performances program will be created in collaboration with an international curator. Integrating the latest trends in performative practices and interdisciplinary exchanges in contemporary art, this program will be situated at the intersection of music, contemporary dance, performance and theater. The application forms will be online mid-September on the FIAC LA’s exhibitor space.
VIP program
FIAC LA will invite its most prestigious guests to discover an exceptional artistic program in the Downtown LA district and throughout the city. As part of its Private Visits Program, FIAC’s VIP guests will benefit from a rich cultural agenda offering a range of private events, including exclusive visits of museums, foundations, and private collections. Exceptional private collections visits will be offered and will highlight the intense activity of collectors and their involvement in the international arts scene. A special series of visits will be organized with a particular focus on the architectural wealth of the city and its surrounding areas. Expeditions and guided tours of the mythical villas designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra and Pierre Koenig, among others, will allow FIAC’s VIP guests to immerse themselves in the history of Los Angeles architecture from the 1920s to the present. FIAC LA will collaborate with the major cultural institutions that make up Los Angeles’ dynamic artistic landscape, such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA), the Hammer Museum of Art and Culture at UCLA, the J. Paul Getty Museum, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), among others.
Furthermore, special events will be held by FIAC’s “Hors les Murs” and many public and private events organized by galleries, institutions, collectors and corporate entities will take place throughout the fair week, proposing an exciting ensemble of private visits, personal invitations and receptions for VIP guests, collectors and art professionals alike.
