Live coverage of “The Future Curatorial What Not and Study What? Conundrum,” by Karen Archey

e-flux conversations, a new web platform for in-depth discussions pertaining to art and culture, will provide live coverage of “The Future Curatorial What Not and Study What? Conundrum,” a symposium taking place at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, November 6 to 8. The symposium will feature presentations by an array of distinguished international curators and artists. Invited speakers include Nancy Adajania, Mélanie Bouteloup, Thomas Boutoux, Luis Camnitzer, Eddie Chambers, Nikita Yingqian Cai, Zasha Colah and Sumesh Sharma (Clark House Initiative), Common Practice New York (CPNY), Elvira Dyangani Ose, Galit Eilat, Annie Fletcher, Liam Gillick, Koyo Kouoh, Miguel A. López, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Tobias Ostrander, Joao Ribas, Sarah Rifky, Simon Sheikh, David Teh, What, How and for Whom, Jelena Vesić and Vladimir Jerić, Vivian Ziherl, and others. The moderators and respondents will be Lorenzo Benedetti, Suhail Malik, Paul O’Neill, Lucy Steeds, Jeannine Tang, and Mick Wilson.
Taking the contested discipline of curatorial studies as its subject, “The Future Curatorial What Not and Study What? Conundrum” asks “What futures?” there might be for curatorial practice. This is a question asked with deliberate intention to carry forward the various critical projects framed within curatorial production of the last two decades.
Following her coverage of the Serpentine Extinction Marathon during Frieze Art Fair, critic and curator Karen Archey will provide live on-site coverage of the symposium for e-flux conversations. Commencing at 10am Thursday, November 6th, Archey’s live coverage will document selected presentations and provide real-time commentary and images. In addition, during the event a host of invited commentators, including distinguished curators from around the world, will reflect on the proceedings on e-flux conversations. Karen Archey is an art critic and independent curator based in New York and Berlin who focuses on feminist practices and the intersection of art and technology. Her writing is regularly featured in frieze, Art Review, and art-agenda, and she has recently served as Curator-in-Residence at Abrons Arts Center and the Editor-at-Large of Rhizome at the New Museum. In spring 2014, Archey co-curated the survey exhibition Art Post-Internet at Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing, and edited the PDF publication Art Post-Internet: INFORMATION/DATA, hosted at the standalone URL post-inter.net. Archey frequently speaks about contemporary art at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Slovak National Gallery, Bratislava; the Institute of Contemporary Art, London; and the Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw. Archey has recently contributed to numerous anthologies published by institutions such as Van Abbemuseum, MIT Press, New Museum, Whitechapel, Sternberg Press, and more.
