The renowned Swiss Art Awards are back and warming up for 2015!  The call is open to all artists, architects, as well as art and architecture mediators of Swiss origins, or who are based in Switzerland. Application deadline is January 19, 2015.

The Swiss Art Awards exhibition is part of Switzerland’s oldest and most renowned art competition. The competition was first held in 1899 as a selection process for scholarships to study abroad. Over time, it has evolved into a prestigious national prize competition which presents a selection of current works of the Swiss art scene on an annual basis. The Swiss Art Awards exhibition is organized by the Federal Office of Culture and is one of the highlights celebrated during Art Basel. For the international expert audience gathering every year in Basel, the Swiss Art Awards provides an excellent opportunity to obtain an overview of the latest highlights of Swiss contemporary art, architecture and mediation on the basis of a selected cross-section.

The competition for the Swiss Art Awards 2015, each of which is endowed with CHF 25,000, again consists of two rounds: in the first, participants submit a dossier by January 19. The Federal Art Committee, teaming up with international experts to form a jury, select the candidates eligible to compete in the second round by end of February. These selected participants then compete for the Awards by presenting their work in the public exhibition between June 15 and 21, 2015.

Within the “Arts” category, candidates’ current practice as well as their development in recent years are relevant. Within the category “Mediation,” the candidate is requested to focus on one project realized within the past two years. For “Architecture,” candidates may focus on realized, unrealized or theoretical projects.

Participants chosen for the exhibition will be invited to present a work and provided with CHF 5,000 by the Federal Office of Culture to cover production and installation costs. From the featured pieces, installations and performances, the Federal Art Committee, along with invited experts, will choose ten winners who will be honoured in the awards ceremony on the occasion of the opening.

Candidates are to register officially online in the newly launched funding platform of the Federal Office of Culture. For registration, competition regulations and further information please visit this website.
