Art Fair Tokyo 2015 will open in Tokyo in the late March cherry blossom season as the tenth fair since the event was first held in 2005.
For this special anniversary year, Art Fair Tokyo will bring together an exciting line-up offering a range of opportunities to encounter and purchase new art. The fair will feature a total of around 140 exhibitors from home and abroad, and the venue layout will further transform with the North Wing showcasing antiques, crafts, nihonga and yoga; and the South Wing featuring a focus on contemporary art. The entrance to the fair will this year showcase galleries exhibiting applied art, making the fair a rare chance for visitors to encounter the unique and rich expression techniques in Japan crafts in the context of an art fair.

Artistic Practices started in 2011 as an exhibition to showcase Japanese creativity through the juxtaposed contexts of historical movements across a range of media and genre, including contemporary art, antiques, crafts, and modern painting.
For the fifth Artistic Practices, a special celebratory double exhibition marks the tenth anniversary of Art Fair Tokyo. It features work by 24 Japanese artists such as Mika Ninagawa, Koki Tanaka, Chiharu Shiota, Tatsuo Miyajima, Kishio Suga, Susumu Koshimizu and more from the influential international art event Venice Biennale and Rimpa, the 400-year-old school of painting. The exhibition will explore contemporary art in Japan from these multifaceted approaches.
Many talks and other satellite events are planned during the fair, both at the venue and in the surrounding area. Asian Art Forum will be held on 20 March, welcoming directors of art fairs in Asia. AMIT (Art, Media and I, Tokyo), for it’s second edition will expand the exhibiting space out in to the area around Marunouchi in central Tokyo to create a place for exploring the influence of art, technology and people on the city.
