Conceived as an independent project to the regular program of Blau Projects exhibitions, C.LAB is a competition that aims to encourage and stimulate reflection and debate about contemporary art, foster artistic diversity, and offer the public new approaches and experiences. The project’s intent is to encourage artists and curators in the beginning of their professional careers by allowing them the opportunity to progress within the visual arts by granting financial support for exhibitions in the gallery space provided by Blau Projects.
For 2015, C.LAB MERCOSUL has the exciting news of launching the project not only to Brazilian curators and artists but also to all Latin American nationalities, whether or not they are living in their country of origin. The two group projects selected—from three to six artists—will happen in July or December/January. Each selected project will receive 15.000,00 BRL to cover production costs and turn the project into reality.
The independent committee that selected projects for the 2014 edition was comprised of the artist Albano Afonso and the critics and curators Márcio Harum and Marcus Lontra Costa. They evaluated the projects according to the following criteria: relevance in the contemporary art scene, objectivity and viability, creativity, originality and mastery of technique.
This year’s committee, to be announced in three weeks, will be comprised of prominent personalities in the Latin American art world. The selection criteria for C.LAB MERCOSUL 2015 include relevance in contemporary artistic production, connections and exchanges between artists from Latin America, objectivity, feasibility and originality.
The open call can be accessed here, where the results will be released May 25. For inquiries please write to info [at] blauprojects.com.
