The vibrant and multifaceted art scene of Copenhagen is coming together for the third time in a 10-day festival. The city will be buzzing with activities when Copenhagen Art Week presents a broad palette of high-quality exhibitions, events, art fairs and festivals.

Copenhagen Art Week is back—with a programme showcasing the absolute best of what the Copenhagen art scene has to offer. The festival brings together more than 50 venues in and around the city, embracing Denmark’s most prominent museums, galleries and project spaces as well as leading art fairs.

A myriad of exhibitions and events
The programme is packed with an array of 100 exhibitions and events. Salons, performances, symposia, guided tours, artist talks and parties generate engaging meetings between the public, art professionals and artists. The festival kicks off in style with a special edition of the popular lounge event SMK Fridays feat. Cph Art Week, hosted by The National Gallery of Denmark, as well as the opening of CHART Art Fair, featuring a selection of the best galleries from the Nordic countries. Other highlights include a day-long bike ride to the city’s interesting project spaces; the panel discussion “Considering Exhibitions,” featuring a range of Danish and international keynote speakers, arranged by the Bikuben Foundation; and art in the Metro, as well as artistic boat rides through the canals of Copenhagen. The week reaches a climax when five contemporary art centres join forces in presenting the exhibition TRUST, featuring more than 40 Danish and international artists.

A metropolis for contemporary art
Copenhagen Art Week was launched three years ago by the online magazine kunsten.nu. Director Jan Falk Borup says: “We want to take everyone—connoisseurs and curious minds alike—on an exploration through the art world of Copenhagen. Our programme offers an insight into what is currently relevant in the art scene—who are the emerging talents, what are the artistic trends, and which issues are being raised at the moment? All in all, the festival cements Copenhagen as a metropolis for high-quality contemporary art.”

The art of sharing
This year’s theme is “Shared Space,” which aims to reinforce the idea that art constitutes a space which we share, affect and negotiate. The festival will emphasise what it means to share one’s space as an artist, institution, audience and society. Director Jan Falk Borup elaborates: “With the thematic headline, we present a festival in the spirit of community. We want to draw attention to what happens when art is experienced, exchanged and produced across different spaces.”
