Joining 140 leading international galleries from 16 countries and 47 cities, the on-site programming will feature major site-specific, large-scale installations and video works by international artists represented by EXPO CHICAGO/2015 exhibitors. In addition to the programs at Navy Pier, IN/SITU Outside provides the opportunity for EXPO CHICAGO to present temporary public art installations along the Lakefront and throughout Chicago neighborhoods, presented in partnership with the Chicago Park District (CPD) and Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE).
IN/SITU and IN/SITU Outside
The 2015 IN/SITU selection takes a significant shift in the program’s presentation, featuring primarily suspended works, activating Festival Hall through large-scale hanging installations. Major works will be sited in each of the exposition’s main plazas, setting a precedent for key placements in future editions of EXPO CHICAGO. Curated by Executive Director of The Contemporary Austin Louis Grachos, highlighting this year’s program will be a large-scale work by Daniel Buren over the center plaza of the show floor as a focal point of the exposition. Entitled From three windows, 5 colours for 252 places (2006), the piece will be joined by works from Carol Bove, Cerith Wyn Evans, Antony Gormley, Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle, Sung Jang and Keith Sonnier, among others.
Returning for the second year, IN/SITU Outside will also feature work by Buren, as well as Ewerdt Hilgemannand Giuseppe Penone. All pieces will be prominently placed on Chicago’s Museum Campus and Grant Park near the lakefront, allowing viewers to see all three structures at one time.
