Thomas Kratz
Ahoi

In his first solo exhibition with Deweer Gallery (and indeed in Belgium), German artist Thomas Kratz (b. 1972), who works in a wide variety of media, presents mainly abstract paintings realized on canvas, chipboard or glass. On these materials that serve as a base—or, in the artist’s words, as a resistance—he paints with soft brushstrokes, always flat, never impasto. Surface and depth merge; there are no more opposites. The exhibition will be completed with some aluminium cast “paintings,” two sculptures and a wall painting. As may be clear, this is to be a subtly composed and balanced exhibition that perfectly matches the space for which it has been conceived. As such, it makes good on the promise of our first introduction to Thomas Kratz at the past Art Brussels.
