Co-curated by Christy Lange (Associate Editor, frieze) and Gregor Muir (Executive Director, ICA, London), the Frieze Talks 2015 programme will include artist and activist Tania Bruguera, author and artist Douglas Coupland, critic Adrian Searle, fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, and many more.
Taking place daily in the Auditorium at Frieze London, Frieze Talks gives fair visitors a chance to encounter some of the most influential thinkers, curators and artists in contemporary art and beyond. This year’s keynote lectures focus on the ways artistic practices can have an impact outside of the art world—from fighting for free speech to combating mass surveillance—while panel discussions span critical issues ranging from the availability of studio space in London to the changes in the global museum landscape.

Wednesday 14 October
1pm: “Energy as Clickbait”
Douglas Coupland, artist and author of works including the seminal Generation X, talks with Emily Segal of the trend-forecasting groupK-HOLE about how we generate personal and interpersonal energy, alone and together.
5pm: “Aesth-ethics: Art with Consequences”
Delivering her first UK lecture after being detained in Cuba for eight months, Tania Bruguera speaks about her politically motivated practice, and her belief that if it is to be political, art must have consequences.
Thursday 15 October
1pm: “The New Museums: Coming Soon to a City Near You”
Adrian Searle of the Guardian asks a panel of directors and curators from four global institutions with ambitious new buildings about how museums can change the social and cultural landscapes around them.
5pm: Artist Anicka Yi, following her acclaimed solo exhibition at Kunsthalle Basel this year, speaks to psychoanalyst and author Darian Leader about her ambition to make art which engages not just the eyes, but also scent, taste and touch.
Friday 16 October
1pm: “Bad. Planetary-scale. Delicious”
Metahaven, a studio for design and research, has been at the forefront of recent thinking on transparency and surveillance. In discussion with Justin McGuirk of London’s Design Museum, co-founders Vinka Kruk and Daniel van der Velden preview exclusive material from theirnewest project, The Sprawl.
5pm: “Off-Centre: Can Artists Still Afford to Live in London?”
Justine Simons OBE, Head of Culture at the Greater London Authority, chairs a discussion addressing how London’s redevelopment and rising costs of real estate put pressure on the city’s artists. A panel including a local artist, designer, developer and curator considers solutions.
Saturday 17 October
noon: “Heart of Darkness in the City of London”
Artist Fiona Banner discusses her most recent projects surrounding images of conflict, as well as the longstanding publishing activities of her Vanity Press imprint, with design writer and curator Emily King.
1pm: Viv Albertine—founding member of the legendary punk band The Slits and author of the recent memoir Clothes, Clothes, Clothes. Music, Music, Music. Boys, Boys, Boys – talks about her life and work with Gregor Muir, Executive Director of the ICA.
5pm: Fashion designer and activist Vivienne Westwood speaks about the changing relationship between art and her practice, from her early designs to the surprising influence of children’s art on her work, to her commitment to environmental and social activism.

Frieze Talks are free for Frieze London ticket holders. Places can be reserved from noon on the day of each talk at the information desk outside the Auditorium at Frieze London.
