Focus: Huang Yong Ping
Guest artist of the upcoming Monumenta exhibition Empires at the Grand Palais, Paris (May 8–June 18)
Kamel Mennour is pleased to present a focus on the Chinese-born French artist Huang Yong Ping on the occasion of Art Basel Hong Kong 2016.
Huang Yong Ping is presenting new works: a sculpture and a set of drawings emblematic of his vocabulary. In these works, the artist reaffirms his bestiary, exploring the multiple symbolic facets of the animals that make it up. Bringing ancient myths into contact with new political, economic, and religious contexts, he invites us to take the animals’ point of view in order to take stock of human action. L’Arc de Saint-Gilles presents a taxidermied deer, cut in two but in mid leap, while the drawings, long rolls of about four metres each, reflect variously on the figures of the snake and the horse.
