fotofever, an international and independent art fair dedicated to the photographic medium, is pleased to announce the appointment of Lucile Corty as the fair’s Artistic Director. At fotofever, she will be responsible for positioning photography within a broader vision of contemporary art and for developing the international image of the fair.
She was an assistant on Cindy Sherman’s first retrospective in Europe at the CAPC contemporary art museum in Bordeaux, and then worked as a Curatorial Assistant at MoMA PS1 in New York.
She has collaborated with Air de Paris in Paris and Isabella Bortolozzi in Berlin, producing works and exhibitions of artists such as Liam Gillick, Philippe Parreno and Carsten Höller.
She founded and ran her own eponymous gallery dedicated to emerging art in the Marais quarter of Paris and participated in art fairs such as FIAC in Paris and Liste–The Young Art Fair, in Basel, Switzerland. As an art consultant, she has helped private collectors and companies build collections.
Lucile Corty holds an MA in History of Art and Archeology from Paris IV Sorbonne and an MA in Curating Contemporary Art from Rennes II Haute Bretagne.
Cécile Schall, founder and director of fotofever, is delighted that Lucile Corty is taking on this role: “Lucile has an eye and the open-mindedness needed to position photography within a broader artistic vision […] Her expertise in contemporary art and its market as well as her skills in discovering and supporting galleries and artists are important assets for fotofever’s international development.”
About fotofever
Founded in 2011 in Paris, the capital of fine art photography, fotofever is celebrating its fifth anniversary. The 2016 edition, to be held from November 11 to 13 at the Carrousel du Louvre, will present 75 international galleries selected by the fair’s artistic director.
fotofever has shown more than 250 artists and attracted 70,000 visitors since the fair’s creation. Some 1,000 artists have also been highlighted at annual events praised for their human scale and welcoming atmosphere.
fotofever maintains its commitment to contemporary photography by focusing on emerging talents and prospective approaches, convinced that the medium is a gateway to the art market for young collectors.
In addition to offering a panorama of the photographic medium, fotofever spotlights solo exhibitions, and it has initiated a program to support the most promising new galleries.
To give exhibitors maximum visibility, fotofever is introducing a new floor plan that will provide optimum access to their exhibition spaces and a singular curatorial experience to their visitors.
An art fair of discovery free of diktats, fotofever intends to be, more than ever, a bridge between galleries presenting their artists, and collectors, both new and experienced.
